MountainsteadMama is honest story of building something real - Homestead life in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. A working homestead farm with animals and gardens, and a family at the heart of it all.
We raise rabbits, chickens, and ducks. Grow organic herbs and produce. Cook from scratch, make things by hand, support our local community where we can, and live intentionally like we were meant to.
This life isn’t curated. Its real, chaotic, and wonderful.
Were always working on what we have and planning for what is next, all while working fulltime from home with two kids and animals that reproduce quickly.
The goal of MountainsteadMama is to share this homestead life we are building, while building a community of homesteaders and small farmers that support one another in this lifestyle.
Homesteading is not a competition, it is a community.
Our Homestead
Chickens
We raise chickens for fresh eggs and meat.
Rabbits
We raise meat rabbits to feed our family and our large dogs.
Ducks
We are preparing for ducklings to joining our homestead for eggs this spring.
Homeschooling:
We are homeschooling our two young children.
Vegetable Garden
We grow a large garden annually for food for us and to supplement animal feed.
Herb Garden
We grow a large herb garden for our own use.
Sourdough
We are on a sourdough journey, to feed our family healthy food.
Food Preservation
Finding ways to preserve the food we grow.
